If one were to define in one line, SAT assesses not just what you know but also how well you can apply that knowledge. SAT is a globally recognized college admission test that tests your knowledge of reading, writing and mathematics. SAT was originally introduced in the year 1926, once revamped in the year 2005 and now again redesigned in Mar, 2016. Concerned about testing skills that are taught to students during school, SAT coaching is usually taken by students who are in their junior or senior year of high school. SAT is owned and published by the College Board, a private and non-profit organization in the United States. It is developed and administered on behalf of the College Board by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).SAT has been re-designed from Mar’2016 keeping in mind the requirement of the students to pursue higher education in United States, as per the research done by College board, the more focus will be on knowledge, skills and understanding which are essential to create a stronger bond between the assessments and what student are learning in the classroom.

Format of Redesigned SAT

There are four tests in re-designed SAT, essay is optional. Reading, Writing and Language Test and the Math Test are compulsory for all the students. The total time allotted to the test is 3 hrs 50 mins, 50 minutes are for essay, if the student doesn’t opt for essay then the total test time is 3 hrs, previously 30 minutes were allotted to SAT Essay.

The Structure of Redesigned SAT is:-

Scoring

The scoring in redesigned SAT is based on 2 sections a) Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, the reading and Writing and Language Test result is combined, and b) Math, the score is the combination of Math test’s calculator and no-calculator portions. The score of each of the two sections will be on a scale ranging from 200-800. The total score will range from 400-1600, it will be the total of the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and the Math section. The score for Essay is given separately and it does not reflect the total score of other three components, mentioned above.

SAT subject test is an additional opportunity to show your knowledge in a specific subject, there are 20 subject tests in five general areas: – English, History, Math, Science and Languages. SAT subject test is recommended by some of the universities, so you need to check the requirement of the university first. SAT subject test helps to understand your strength and how well you are prepared for the specific test. It assists you in admission and course placement. This test reflects what is taught in high school. It is to check your proficiency in the subject in which you want to pursue your career. The time allocated for each SAT subject test is 1 hr, the questions are in the form of multiple choices and the score ranges from 200-800.

SAT Coaching in India is offered seven times a year; in October, November, December, January, March or April, May and June. Online score card is usually available after three weeks of test administration. Candidates wishing to take the test may register online at the College Board’s website, by mail, or by telephone, at least three weeks before the test. SAT subject test is offered 6 times in a year, but it is not necessary that the entire 20 subject test will be offered on the same date, you need to check on College Board website before starting with the preparation. SAT subject test dates are the same as of SAT but on the same date student cannot appear for SAT and SAT subject both. The validity of the exam is five years.
